Chapter 9Kit awoke to the sound and scent of the bubbling coffeepot, gurgling merrily over the coals in the fireplace. Perhaps a good jolt of caffeine would make up for a restless night and too few hours of sleep. She needed something to help her cope with what would probably be a very long day. Disappointment and disgust tangled in her mind. She had to face him again, in spite of everything. When she began to stir, Bret called out a disgustingly cheerful greeting.
“Rise and shine, Boston. The sun’s been up half an hour.”
As if she cared! Only one thing mattered…at least the one she was prepared to deal with before breakfast. “Is the coffee ready?”
He grinned, ignored her surly tone, and simply filled a cup, which he carried over to her.
