Gideon POV
I felt like the biggest jerk in the world after Kiara left me alone in my bedroom. I have zero intention of making her cry, but lately, I’ve been hurting her a lot of times. It was true that I needed a moment to think about this. She had lied to me from the very beginning. But that doesn’t mean that I am calling this off.
I heard a soft knock on the door. I quickly turned around, thinking that it might be Kiara. To my bad luck, it was mom. “What have you done to her?” she asked me, folding both arms in front of her chest.
I looked away. “Nothing.” I curtly replied. I heard her let out a deep sigh before she continued, “Both of you said the same. You can’t fool me, Gideon. Tell me what’s going on?” mom demanded.
“She lied to me, that’s all.” I finally spilled the truth to her. Mom stared back at me with a quizzical look. “About what, exactly?” she asked me back. I raked my hair in frustration. “It’s a long story, mom. You wouldn’t understand.” I paused for a while. “I think I lost her this time,” I said with remorse.
Mom walked towards me, lifting my chin. “How can you be so sure? Did she tell you that?” she asked. “I don’t know. She just left, crying…. Isn’t that clear enough?” I said with desperation.
“You like her so much, do you?” mom asked, smiling knowingly at me. It felt pretty weird for me to discuss this with mom. I’d never talked about woman with her before. I mostly went to Uncle Damian.
“I guess so…” I looked away because my face suddenly felt hot. I’d never been this honest with mom, and I was a bit shy. “Then you should fight for her.” Mom grabbed both of my hands and gave them a light squeeze. I didn’t want to look emotional like a woman and cry in front of her, so I quickly nodded at her.
Mom was right. This isn’t over yet.
I have made my decision. I’ll find Kiara and stop their plan to get engaged.
***************
I stopped my car a few blocks from her house and waited for her because I had no idea where she was going to meet that asshole tonight. It didn’t take long before I saw a black SUV come out from the gate. It must be them.
I revved my car's engine and followed after them, but not too close because I didn’t want them to notice being followed by me. After thirty more minutes, the car finally stopped in front of a hotel.
I hid behind another car, and then I saw her. I held my breath as I took how gorgeous she was tonight. She looked like a goddess in her silky deep blue dress. The thin flowy fabric hugged her curves like a second skin. The back part of her dress showed too much of her skin, and I didn’t like it. I mean, it looks good on her, but it will make her a target for the other man's eyes. Damn it. Why did she have to wear such a revealing outfit when I wasn’t around?
I’ve made the right choice of coming here tonight. No man could resist that much temptation, and that bastard Nolan is not the exception.
I saw them entering the hotel lobby together, and I also made my way towards the building from another entrance.
I saw Kiara and her dad inside the VIP room from outside the window. Nolan was sitting right beside her. He was way too close to her. I was this close to breaking the glass and broke his arms the moment he put his hand over her back. Her dad was saying something that I couldn’t hear because I was outside, but whatever that is, Kiara didn’t seem very pleased. She suddenly got up from the chair and went out.
Nolan followed after her, and I could sense something bad was about to happen. I found another entrance and went after them. I saw the elevator move to the highest floor. What is she doing up there alone at night? The next elevator took forever to reach back down to the ground floor where I was.
I pressed the button impatiently to quickly close the door. The elevator stopped at the twentieth floor because someone also wanted to get in. It was an old grandma, and she walked so slowly, getting herself into the elevator. Damn it. I don’t have time for this. She finally got off at the thirtieth floor.
By the time I got to the most top floor, I saw Nolan had forced himself to her. He ripped the top part of her dress, and she was struggling under him. After witnessing that, all I see is red. Nolan was lucky I didn’t bring my gun with me, or he’ll be history by now.
She was limping and falling to the ground when I lifted Nolan off from her and punched him square in his face. “Hey, what is your problem?” Nolan asked me after he got my first punch.
“I said, get your hands off her, you jerk!?” I landed another punch at his stomach. He staggered back and lost his balance falling to the ground. I continued to attack him like the other night at the bar until he lost consciousness. Okay, maybe a lot worse than that. I just lost it when I saw him nearly rape Kiara. If I wasn’t there, he could’ve gotten what he wanted.
I went back to Kiara after I finished with him. “Hey, are you okay?” I asked her, checking her condition. She had a bruise on her arms and neck. Her body was shivering because she was too shaken by what had happened earlier. I swear I will kill him after this. I saw my necklace on the floor not too far from us, and I picked them up.
“Gideon?” she said with a weak voice, her eyes filled with tears. “Yes, it’s me.” I smiled at her and hugged her tightly in my chest. I shouldn’t let her attend this dinner in the first place. This is my fault. I kissed the top of her head, hoping that it somehow could help to calm her down. I took off my jacket and put it on her. “Let’s get you out of here,” I said, picking her up in my arms.
Her arms clung around my neck as I carried her to the elevator. She didn’t say anything and let me bring her anywhere I wanted. I carefully put her into the passenger seat of my car before I walked towards the driver’s seat. I started the engine and drove away from the hotel.
I called Uncle Damian, and he picked up on the second ring. “Hey, kiddo? What's up?” he answered. The loud sound of music in the background told me that he was at the club. “Uncle Damian, I had a favor to ask..” I said, making a U-turn on the road. “Just shoot, kid.” He replied lightly.
“Can I use your apartment tonight?” I asked. My eyes went back to check Kiara. She was still sleeping soundly on the passenger seat beside me.
“Sure, don’t forget to use protection.” Uncle Damian said, then giggled. I rolled back my eyes at him. “It’s not like you think,” I told him. He laughed even harder from the other side. “Whatever, have fun, kid! You know the password,” he said, then hung up on the phone. Uncle Damian uses my birth date as the password. It was very nice of him. It even seems like he brought the place for me.
I had no other option. I can’t bring her back to her place or, even worst, my place.
I tried my best not to wake her up, but the moment I put her on the bed, her eyes fluttered open. “Gideon, where are we?” she asked, looking around the place.
“Ssshhh…I want you to get some sleep. You need some rest.” I told her while patting her head gently. “Don’t leave me. I don’t want to be alone.” Kiara said, grabbing my hand.
“I am not leaving you. I am staying here,” I said, joining her on the bed. I lay beside her. She curled up and lay her head on my chest. She sighed in relief after that. “Your chest felt nice and warm…God, you smelled good too,” she said while closing her eyes.
Blush crept onto my face. No one ever told me that. We mostly just had s*x, and I left before they could wake up. I never do cuddling after s*x before. “You’re welcome to stay in this position as long as you like,” I told her, earning a small giggle from her. I put my hand over hers. I never felt this connected before with a woman.
“I’m sorry it takes me too long to get there,” I said while looking up at the ceiling.
“I thought you hated me for using you…” she said with a sleepy tone, without looking at me. “No, of course not. I like you, Kiara.” I told her. “I like you a lot.” I stroke her hair gently. I was expecting an answer from her, but she didn’t say anything.
“Are you asleep?” I asked. After a moment of silence, I knew that she had fallen asleep. I kissed her forehead. “Good night, Kiara.” I closed my eyes, smiling to myself.
I am glad I could stop her from making the biggest mistake in her life tonight.
