Brian gently wiped the remaining tears from Conley’s face. He was still stunned that he had willingly recalled a devastating occurrence from his past in order to make himself weep, thus giving Brian the tears he needed to gain eternal life.
“I didn’t feel anything,” Brian said.
Conley’s eyes still held a trace of sorrow, mixed with amusement now as he replied, “Did you think it would feel like being struck by lightning?”
“Maybe? I don’t know. I guess I expected something that said I’m different now.”
