Whatever I said! Whatever I did! I didn't mean it! I just want you back for good! Want you back! Want you back! Want you back for good! Blade is singing horribly at the top of his voice, his eyes glued on me. He turns up the volume of the stereo and takes my hand. Whenever I'm wrong! Just tell me the song! And I'll sing it! You'll be right and understood! Want you back! Want you back! Want you back for good! I giggle and look away, poking my head outside the window so that the breeze slaps my face and knocks some sense into my drunk head. I'm feeling tipsy. I've had quite too much to drink. That's probably why I'm feeling like this... Like kissing Blade. And the way he's looking at me and running his hands over my hips isn't making things any easier... My hair sways in the wind as Blade swerves the car. Does Blade really mean it? Does he want me back for good? He still loves and sings loudly to our song. That kind of makes my heart tilt a little. And I hate myself for feeling this way! Blade and I are done! From what we used to have, it's clear he and I weren't meant for each other. We were just meant to cross paths, not stay together. Blade turns down the volume. "That drunk short guy with glasses that I called an uber for..." Miguel. "What about him?" "He likes you, right?" I chortle. "No! Why would you say that?" "I've seen you at coffeshops with him. You've posted him several times on your i********: stories so I thought that you two -" "He's gay," I reveal. If he's surprised, he doesn't show it. But there's relief and joy on his face when I say that. I pause. "Wait, have you been stalking me?" Blade's green eyes are fixed on me and his lips curve into a cocky smile. "I've been wanting you back." "When did you come back in town?" "About two weeks ago..." "And in the two weeks you've found out the coffeshop I go to and who I go with. I'm sure you also know all my pins and passwords to my safe, my bank account, my social media accounts..." He stops driving in the middle of the road and stares at me. "What?" I ask. "I'd missed seeing you talk." I roll my eyes and giggle, glancing away. I don't know why I'm giggling. I shouldn't be giggling at whatever he says. I should tell him to stay away. Tell him to stay away! I find the courage to look deep into his eyes and all the words magically evaporate when our eyes bore into each other. My heart pounds a bit harder than usual against my chest and it's a butterfly feast in my stomach. How could someone have this effect on me after all these years? "Blade... I-" He cuts me off with a sudden passionate kiss. It's fierce... Full of fire... It catches me offguard, knocking all the air off my lungs till I'm breathless. He grabs the nape of my neck, pulling me closer to him, his kiss deepening, our breathes quickening. Blade pulls back and stares at me. He cups my face in his hands. "I missed you." "Uh... I..." I stutter, out of breathe. He places his forefinger on my lips. "Sssh!" He pecks my forehead. "Come sit on my lap!" Someone knocks the window hard. Two cops. I freeze. Blade lowers the car window. One cop bends and smirks, his eyes playing ping-pong from me to Blade. "Sir?" "Why are you parked in the middle of the road, son? " Blade grits his teeth. "She needed some help." "Some d**k, you mean?" "What?" "We both saw you allover each other from the car. You know what I'm talking about." "We weren't having s*x," he defends. "You were about to." Blade mumbles under his breathe. "Son, what did you just say?" He growls. "I'm sorry..." The cop turns to look at me. "Miss, are you drunk?" My heart sinks. "No she's not!" Blade retorts. "I didn't ask you son," the cop sniggers, slapping him on the cheek lightly. "Miss, are you drunk?" The other cop asks. I shake my head. "No." "But your eyes seem to be saying otherwise." I glance away. The cop turns to Blade, whose fist is clenched on his lap. "Both of you are drunk," the cop states. "You're drunk driving, a crime punishable by law. And as if that's not enough a crime, you park in the middle of the road and start fornicating!" The other cop is laughing. I'm trying to find what's so funny. Blade digs his hand in the pockets of his jeans and throws a few notes of dollars in the cop's face. "Goodnight, son," he grins broadly taking the money happily. Blade shuts the window. "Good riddance! " Angrily, Blade starts the car and the engine roars to life. He speeds away, driving like a maniac. He doesn't slow down one bit, instead jumps over every bump we come across. His face is contorted with fury, veins poking out of his temples. It's silent, just the sound of the speeding car and his panting. A truck seems to be heading the same lane, it's headlights burning my eyes. My heart slams against my chest as the truck gets closer. Blade is still and calm, not one bit shaken by what's about to occur. Tension is screaming along every nerve when I scream, "Blade! The truck!" He glares at me and hisses, "Quiet!" My pulse roars in my ears when the truck gets even much more closer. His hands on the steering wheel, he swerves swiftly to avoid the oncoming truck, a triumphant smirk on his face. "Relax..." He's now driving slowly and smoothly after almost killing me. "You know I'm a jeep guru!" I don't respond. He doesn't bother to strike a conversation. So we both stay silent. He breaks the silence. "That married guy you were dating is an i***t. I wonder what you saw in him... I mean, from me to him? Really? And, why would you date a married man?" "Why should I explain myself?" "Why shouldn't you?" I mumble under my breathe. "See! This is the reason we couldn't work! Because of you! You're so stubborn and so hard-headed! You're toxic!" "Says the guy that's doing the yelling!" Blade bangs the steering wheel and blows out his cheeks. He stays quiet for a solid moment then says, "Sorry..." he says sincerely and genuinely. "God! I'm embarrassed for talking to you like that. Sorry... Please forgive me." I look outside the window. "It's fine." "I said I'm sorry!" He retorts. I glare at him. "And I said it's fine!" I can't wait to get home. Blade seems to be a handful and I need air. I need to breathe. I give him the direction and we finally pull into my apartment. He parks just outside. "This place is beautiful," he says, pressing his foot on the brake pedal. "You live alone?" "Asks the stalker..." "Hey... Can't we have a normal conversation like normal people? I wanna be with you. And I know it's not going to be easy getting you back but don't make it harder... Please." I'm tongue-tied by his words. "So, you live alone?" "I still stay with Wendy and Lex." "Oh..." he says in disappointment. He hates Wendy and Lex. Wendy, most especially. "I guess that's it for the night. Thanks for the drive," I reach for the car door. "Don't!" Blade hops out of the car and opens the door for me. He laughs. I always found his laugh sexy and contagious. "What's funny?" I giggle. "This gentleman thing isn't as bad as I pictured it." Soon as I step out, he engulfs me in a warm hug, forcing me to sniff his cologne. Blade was never a cologne person. So this whole new him is kind of surprising. In a good way. "Mabel! " Malone? Before I can turn back to look at him, Malone pushes me away and pounces on Blade. He throws a punch to Blade and slams his head over the top of his car. Malone roars angrily. "My warning wasn't enough, huh!" ****
