I found Ash late in the evening, seated in his office but not engrossed in work. He held a drink, his gaze fixed on the moonlight beyond one of the room’s expansive windows. How long had he been there?
Approaching him cautiously, I noticed his lack of acknowledgment, a worrying sign.
He’s closed off, Ember warned.
Does that mean you can’t communicate with his wolf?

It was disconcerting how excited Ash could appear in the morning, only to become so withdrawn by evening. He didn’t even glance my way as I stood before his desk. Circling around it, I positioned myself in front of him, yet still, he refused to meet my gaze.
“Ash?” I ventured.
He sighed, setting down his drink and rubbing his eyes wearily.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
