It was another lonely evening. Two days since she’d seen Chase. He was ignoring her, giving her the “alone” time that she’d asked for; not even a cheery phone call. She figured that he was probably pouting, though she refused to let it bother her; he’d be back soon. In two years they hadn’t managed to stay away from each other for more than a few days. Deciding not to worry about his absence, Lacy planned to spend the evening reading, allowing the day’s aggravation to rest—even if her mind was drawn back to horse thieves, Sheriff Jud Herscock, a missing colt, and Travis Wills.
