The next morning, I quickly got dressed for school. When as I made my way downstairs, I was not prepared for what I was about to witness.
The scent of freshly made pancakes and bacon filled the air, but it wasn’t the food that stopped me in my tracks. It was the sight of Ann, sitting at the dining table with Mason. She was smiling at him. Her tone was sweet and melodic as she held a forkful of pancake up to his mouth.
“Open wide, honey” she said in that sing-song voice of hers, and Mason looked at her.
He was just as suspicious as I was. He knew Ann wasn’t the type to do this. He might be young but he wasn’t dumb.
“I can feed myself,” he protested.
Ann chuckled softly, her fingers gently pinching his cheek. “Don’t be silly. You’re still a baby, so I’ll feed you.”
