Chapter Two

Eolly's POV

I was happy and confident when I woke up and prepared to go to my interview, not because I have Aunt Rosy as my backer but because I just knew that I would be able to nail it. I was seated on a chair in a room that had a long table surrounded by office chairs. This may be a meeting or a conference room.

As I was waiting for Mr. Lewis, I managed to have a look in this room. It was super clean, the humor about Mr. Knox being a clean freak maybe true. I slid my fingers on the table and no single one, not even a tiny dust on my finger tip. The room smells good too. If I'm going to be interviewed in this place, I might do my best. The atmosphere gives me the vibe to go all out. It was well maintained and I don't think that there will be someone who won't be able to work or think properly here.

"Ms. Higgins have a seat. Please answer this and you need to perfect all these tests before you go for an interview. You have 30 minutes to finish this." Mr. Lewis told me and was about to leave when I stopped him,

"Perfect? What if I did not get this all right?" I asked. I was still standing, waiting for his reply.

"You won't be able to take the interview, which means you're screened out" he said without battling an eye.

"Don't stress out. Mr. Knox is in an urgent meeting now and he is not expecting you to perfect that nor finish the test within 30 minutes." He added.

"Is that so? Please be back after 10 minutes. If you excuse me, I need to finish and perfect this test." I told him sarcastically.

I didn't have time to look around when I entered the building as I had no intention of actually working there. I like being a freelancer. But because of what Mr. Lewis has said, I changed my mind.

Huh! He thought I wouldn't be able to perfect this easy test nor finish it in 30 minutes! Who does he think he is? What is the basis of his ridiculous assumption? Oh! My portfolio? Because there was nothing flashy in there, he judged my intelligence? I'm going to prove him wrong. Just wait and see.

After 10 minutes, Mr. Lewis came to check on me. I handed him the test and shock was all over his face when he saw that I had answered everything.

"You answered them all. Let's check if you have perfected it." He said in awe, and I was left alone again. After a few minutes, Mr. Lewis came in with some snacks and informed me that I had a perfect score. He also told me that Mr. Knox is in a very important meeting and can't leave yet, so I could relax and wait for at least a couple of hours. I said it was alright and he left.

I patiently waited for the meeting to end while playing on my phone. I was about to start a new game when my friend Seily called and I answered on the first ring.

"What's up?"

"Girl........ where are you? Can you come with me? I'm going to attend a blind date my dad has arranged for me. I'm so, so, so, sooooooo need you to come with me." Seily said as soon as I answered the call.

"But I'm in a job interview right now? What time will you go?"

"Job interview? When did you become interested in an 8 to 5 job and when did you even apply for a job? Are you out of money? You know I can lend you, right?" Seily with her non-stop question.

"It's nothing like that, if you remember Aunt Rosy, the old lady I helped with the gangster on the street in C City? She has a workaholic son and she wants me to cause some trouble for him , and because I lost our bet, I had to do as she wished." Eolly said with a loud laugh. "Anyway, when and where is your blind date?" I asked her anyway.

"Oh, it's today at 4 in the afternoon at the Serene Hotel,"

"Fine, let's meet at Serene Hotel later, see you bye." I said and hung up.

I had just finished talking to Seily when I heard a soft knock and the sound of the opening door. I looked up and saw a tall and handsome man, maybe in his early thirties. He has jet black hair, a chiseled face, turquoise eyes and kissable lips. I wonder how good he is in the kissing department. Wait, what? Where did that come from? I immediately made a stoic face so he wouldn't see the oh-so yummy look on my face. Following the man is Mr. Lewis, I guess he is Mr. Knox. I stood up to greet him and offered him a hand shake.

"Good morning Mr. Knox." I said, extending my hand for a shake.

Mr. Knox looked at me sternly, as if he was disappointed. He did not take my hand for a shake, so I just took my hand back.

"Ms. Higgins, have a seat. I had to attend an emergency meeting so I had to delay your interview."

"Mr. Lewis has explained to me already. The fact that I am still here means that I am looking forward to this interview and I intend to stay." I told him that I wouldn't back down. Mr. Knox arched his brow, indicating he was not happy being provoked.

"You're confident that you will land the job. Is it because you know my mother?" He asked, looking annoyed.

"Oh no, not at all. It's not because I personally know Aunt Rosy, but because I know I am capable."

"You think highly of yourself, Ms. Higgins."

"I don't, I'm just confident about my abilities. Judging by your questions, I guess Mr. Knox doesn't know why I agreed with Aunt Rosy to work in your company," I told him.

"Care to tell me why?" He asked.

"Are you sure you want to know?"

"Do I look like I'm not?"

"Very well, it's because I lost our bet, that's why."

I wanted to laugh out loud when I saw Mr. Knox and Mr. Lewis's faces. It was priceless. They both look idiotic. However, Mr. Knox recovered fast and asked me. "Are you telling me that it doesn't matter whether you get the job or not?"

"At first, yes, but I changed my mind. I want to prove to someone that Aunt Rosy has good eyes for talented people too." I replied, wearing my winning smile.

"Is that so? You graduated and majored in accountancy. If you are so talented, are you up for a challenge?"

"Shoot"

"Follow me," Mr. Knox said and stood up.

We went up to the 38th floor. This floor belongs to the technology department, I guess. It is full of computers and monitors. I wonder what I will be doing here.

"Ms. Higgins, our system was hacked last night. No matter what my best tracker does, he can't penetrate the hackers' wall. If you manage to settle this, you're hired" Mr. Knox said with a stoic face.

I laughed out loud at what he said. "Mr. Knox my professional fee in this field is quite high and yet you wanted it for free? I never thought you were that cheap.” I saw how his face darkened, so before he could react, I took back my words and said.

“Just kidding, I know you have an outstanding standard when it comes to hiring people. I’ll do it, of course, because I want to get hired. If you’ll excuse me,” I said, sitting down and start to do my thing.
