Alex walked into the shop with Justin by his side.
What are they all doing here?
I've been working here for a long time. One of the reasons I enjoy working here to much is the fact that, I don't get to see anyone from school.
None of them usually come here. I wonder how they found out about this place.
I started to get nervous when I saw Alex.
I'm literally wearing my stained T-shirt which is covered with an apron. I look a mess.
What's he going to think of me?
I can't let him see me in this state.
I tried turning back but Bennie stopped me.
"Where do you think you're going, young lady?" she asked in a teasing tone.
"Bennie, cover for me. I have to go. I can't let him see me like this"
She had a sly smile on her face "No. I can't let you do that"
"Come on!"
"Time to face your fears, honey. You're going to have to talk to him"
"I don't even look nice"
"You look just fine. If he doesn't like it then he can go screw himself"
She pushed me towards the counter.
Alex's eyes met mine. Once again, it felt as if we were the only people in the coffee shop. Everyone else's presence seemed to fade into the background.
All I could focus on was him and his piercing blue eyes.
How can someone be so attractive?
Him and Justin walked towards us. There's no escaping this now. He's already seen me. Even if I decide to run, it'll be the weirdest thing ever.
I put on a smile "Hi guys"
Justin sat on one of the stools in front of the counter "Hey beautiful"
Alex rolled his eyes "Shut up, Justin"
"Is someone jealous?"
I chuckled.
Justin is too goofy for his own good. It's obvious that he's the comedian of their friend group.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Bennie busy herself with the coffee machine even though there was nothing to do there.
That nosy witch! She just wants to see what's going on.
I could see Alex smile at me. His smile literally melted my heart.
"Hi Emerald" he said.
I could have turned into a puddle of water there and then.
The way he said my name made my heart fill with warmth. I love the way it rolled off his tongue. He said it like the name was made for him to say it.
I want to hear him say it again.
"Hi Alex"
Bennie stood beside me "Hi guys"
Justin looked at her with his mouth slightly open. He looked starstruck.
I almost giggled at the sight. I guess Justin might have a new crush on Bennie.
"This is my friend, Bennie" I introduced "Bennie, this is Alex and this is Justin"
She and Alex shook hands firmly.
"Bennie" Alex said "I know you. You're one of the best bow and arrow shooters that we have in the pack"
Did I forget to mention that Bennie is talented in combat too?
She never misses a target when it comes to shooting arrows and guns. That's another reason I'm scared of her confronting Ava. Bennie can literally snap her neck in a second.
"That's nice of you to say" Bennie replied.
"It's true. How come you don't attend the pack school? I haven't seen you there before"
"I attend a theatre arts school"
"I see. It's nice to meet you"
Justin still stared at her in awe. He looked like he had seen an angel.
I just met Justin but even from watching him from afar, I could tell how unserious and goofy he was. I've never seen him so serious before.
Bennie's eyes landed on him. For some reason, she couldn't look away. They just stared at each other.
She looked a little star struck too.
I am so gonna tease her about this later.
"Hi" Justin muttered.
"Uh..hi" Bennie replied.
Bennie looked speechless. They lookedat each other in the most cheesy way.
Bennie and I have been friends from years but I've never seen her act this way in front of a guy before. She's usually very outgoing and direct when it comes to boys. They don't affect her in any way.
Alex smiled. He obviously noticed the instant connection between them.
Alex cleared his throat.
Bennie blinked repeatedly "Uh...I should go. It was nice meeting you both"
Before Justin could say another word, she turned away and rushed into the back room. I had to refrain myself from laughing. They looked so cute.
"Justin..." I said "Is there something you want to say?"
Even after she left, he kept staring in the direction she walked away in.
"Who is she?" Justin asked.
"You're love struck, my boy" Alex teased.
"I'm not even gonna deny it. She's gorgeous"
I turned to Alex.
He looked so cute with his curly hair and blue eyes. The scent of his cologne filled my nose. I had the urge to wrap my arms around him and inhale his sweet scent.
What the hell is wrong with me?
I'm thinking like a creep.
I just can't help it. I'm drawn to him like a moth to a flame. There's just something magnetic that's pulling me to him.
I have to snap out of it. Guys like Alex don't fall for girls like me. It's never going to happen.
Why would he want someone like me when he has Ava? She's a literal walking Barbie doll. She's the kind of girl that'll make you do a double take when you pass her. She's flawless and so is Alex.
Me? I'm plain. There's nothing special about me. I don't think any guy has ever looked at me twice.
Alex looked at me "Emerald, how are you?'
Now that you're here, I'm alright. Even if I wasn't fine before, I am now.
"I'm okay"
"I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I tried looking for you to give you an extra shirt but I heard you ran off"
I felt embarrassed when I remembered what happened in the cafeteria today. I felt pathetic. Ava has a way of making people feel worthless.
"It's fine" I said "It wasn't your fault. Thanks for helping"
"I still feel like I need to apologize. I hope you don't see me as a stalker just because I looked for you here"
My eyes widened in surprise. Alex came here looking for me?
His words made me feel like I had butterflies in my belly.
"How did you find me?" I asked him.
"It wasn't hard. All I had to do was ask around"
I can't believe Alex came all this way for me. I was a bit surprised when I saw him here because I know this isn't his usual hang out spot.
Does this mean he cares about me?
"Don't get ahead of yourself, lover girl" my wolf, Lola teased.
"Shut up" I snapped at her.
Wait...if Alex came here because of me then why the hell is Ava here? Well, I'll worry about that later.
Alex and I looked into each other's eyes. We totally ignored everyone else in the shop.
I can get lost in his blue orbs forever.
I got goosebumps just by looking at him. A mixture of excitement and nervousness washed over me.
In that moment, I felt a deep sense of connection to him. It was as if the world around us faded. All that mattered now was us...in this moment.
Time seemed to stand still. We both stood there, lost in a sea of our emotions.
Alex touched my hand "I hope you're-"
"Alex honey!" Ava's high-pitched voice sounded.
She waved at Alex from the corner of the room.
Alex and Justin both had confused looks on their faces.
"What the hell is Ava doing here?' Justin asked.
Alex sighed "I have no idea. How did she find out where we were?"
Justin face palmed himself "I saw Lorie talking to Bruno. Maybe he said something"
"Why does she have to follow me around everywhere?" Alex whined.
From the looks of things, it seems Ava only came here because she knew Alex would be here.
Alex turned to me "Guess I'll see you around"
He had a sad expression on her face.
"See you" I murmured.
Justin smiled weakly at me "Bye Emerald. Say hi to Bennie for me"
I nodded.
Slowly, they walked away.
I still couldn't believe that Alex went out of his way to find out where I was just so he could apologize to me.
The fact that he did that made me feel warm on the inside. Apart from Bennie, I don't think anyone has ever cared about me before.
Bennie came out of the room and stood beside me.
"How did it go?" she asked excitedly.
"He came here to look for me" I whispered "He actually came here for me"
