Iris sat in the reception area, face flushed. On his way out, Adam had gotten pointed looks from a bunch of men he didn’t recognize, but they were nothing compared to the scowl Iris directed at Adam’s escort. She stood and walked outside to her car, not waiting to see if Adam followed.
Achy and lightheaded, Adam fell behind his grandmother crossing the parking lot.
