“We almost have enough children for me to come forth…” His voice rasped, echoing through the ocean’s depths.
I didn’t know whether to feel relieved or to drown in guilt. As a mother myself, harvesting children for Abaddon was a brutal task. I hated every moment of it, but we had no choice. I don’t know how our ancestors ended up as guardians for this demon. All I’ve been told is that it was the First Elders, Vetis, who later took the human name Robert, and Abaddon’s brother, who escaped the magic binding him and left Abaddon behind.
Robert wasn’t the stronger of the two. He had his own power, but not like Abaddon. Fortunately, the combined magic of the Elders and our own held Abaddon at bay, until it weakened over time. That is why our kingdom is crumbling.
