Natalia: The night air was sharp, cool against my skin as I stood on the veranda, arms wrapped around myself. The stars blinked faintly above, scattered across the darkness, but I wasn’t really looking at them. My gaze was somewhere far beyond, somewhere I couldn’t reach. Somewhere that I knew all of this did not exist. Somewhere where I believed that I wanted to be happy. My past, my present, my future. Nothing really made sense to me. But I just found myself caught in the middle of all of it. I didn’t hear him at first. But I felt him. The weight of his presence, heavy and undeniable, settled at my back before his footsteps gave him away. I didn’t turn. I didn’t want to. Truth be told, because I knew that if I had turned to face him, I wouldn't be able to speak or say anything.
