The past few days I lived like a ghost.
I moved through the halls, smiled when necessary, sat where expected… but never near him. Never with him.
And if I could, I avoided him at all costs…
I didn’t speak to him at breakfast. Didn’t sit by him at dinner. And if he entered a room, I left. It was the only way I knew how to protect what little strength I had left. It was the one way for me to be able to hold onto whatever dignity I had left. And at this point, the last thing that I wanted was to find my dignity more insulted than it already was.
