The Siren's Song

Tess's Point of View

As I swam down to the deepest point of the lake I allowed my song to keep playing. I knew that many of those following me would start to drown so I grabbed the first five people and kissed them.

The kiss was not to bring life to them but to take it. I ate their souls and as their souls left the body they turned to ash. With enough energy coursing through my body I touched the bottom of the lake with my hand and created a bubble that would allow my victims to breathe until I let them go or take their life. As the last of the rogues entered the bubble I began sucking souls from several of them allowing their bodies to turn to ash.

After taking ten more lives I looked at the group of remaining people and there had to be about twenty to thirty more remaining. I would leave them here for now and see what the alpha would want me to do with them. I left the bubble and swam to the surface.

Rick was standing near the shoreline with a young woman and talking to several pack members. The sun was now shinning and I wondered how long I had been down there because it was the middle of the night when the attack started.

I swam to the shore and walked out of the lake. Everyone stopped talking and looked at me.

"Where are the bodies?" Someone asked.

I looked at the young man and said, "They are safe for now." Then I walked towards Rick.

Rick was holding onto the young female I had never seen before and I smiled.

'His mate,' My wolf said.

'I figured.'

'You are not upset are you?' She asked.

'Not at all. I like Rick but only as a friend.'

"Hey," I said as I walked up to Rick.

"Tess. Thank you for what you did back there but where are the bodies? And what is up with your eyes?"

"What's wrong with my eyes?"

"They are bright red," The woman said.

"Oh. It is because I fed."

"Fed on what?" She asked.

"I am half siren and wolf. Sirens feed off the souls of their victims and since I fed a good chunk I have extra energy in my body. That is why my eyes are red."

My mother along with several of the others use to talk about what it was like being a siren to us children. We never got to experience or see what it was like to be our true selves because of the hunters but today I got to discover my true self and I liked it.

"So where are the bodies of your victims?" Rick asked.

"Dust and ash. The remaining are in a bubble waiting to be killed or set free."

"How many?"

"About twenty to thirty. I only took fifteen. Enough to create the bubble and to sustain it."

"Weird," The girl said.

"So what is your plan with the rogues?" Rick asked.

"Well, as long as they are in the bubble they will remain under my spell. I will need to stay with them to keep everything running smoothly but it is up to you what you want me to do with them."

Rick turned to the young women and said, "Do you know any of them?"

Before she could say anything I said, "Wait is she a rogue? How did she not make it down there?"

"Tess this is Becky, my mate."

"Nice to meet you," I said.

"Nice to meet you, Tess. No, I don't know any of the rogues personally. Kane just brought us all together."

"Can you find out if they are worth saving?" Rick asked me.

I thought about Rick's request and said, "I can try. It will take me a while."

"How long?"

"I am not sure. Several days."

"Okay. I will keep a few warriors near here in case anything goes wrong. If you need anything holler out."

"Sounds good."

I turned around and walked back towards the water. "Hey Tess," I heard Rick say.

I turned to look at him. "Ya."

"If you find Kane I want to talk to him."

I nodded and headed back into the water. Before diving under I looked into the tree line and saw Ben. I smiled and dived into the water.

Layla's Point of View

It was now eight in the morning and I was pacing back and forth. Kane has not called with any updates or answered his phone. I needed to know what was happening so I picked up my phone and called Ben.

"Hey Babe," He said as he answered.

"Hey," I said as I tried not to sound disappointed. I knew Kane had failed me,

"How are you?" I asked.

"Okay. Tired but okay. The pack was attacked last night."

"What?"

"Ya. In the middle of the night, a small army of rogues showed up and attacked. We had no clue they were in the area."

"Is everyone okay?"

"Tess saved us all. She lured everyone into the lake."

"Wow. I am happy you are okay. I'll spend a few extra days here to be on the safe side."

"Okay honey. Just be safe. I love you."

"Love you too." And then I hung up.

I threw my phone at the wall and screamed in anger. He failed me and that witch ruined everything for me. I couldn't believe it. Now, what was I supposed to do?

"Everything okay?" My mom asked as she walked in with concern on her face.

"It didn't work mom. She used her siren powers to kill them all," I screamed as I began to pace more.

"Well honey then we find another way to get rid of her."

"How?" I asked.

"One thing her wolf won't suspect," My mom said as she stood up and left the room. She came back with a bag in her hand and handed it to me causing me to smile.
