IMMEDIATELY, EVERYONE FLICKED OFF their lights, plunging the bridge of the ship in darkness.
Someone in the darkness said, “Shit.” I thought it was Zyana.
We listened. In the intense silence, I could hear every breath. The water from the ceiling went drip, drip, drip.
We heard nothing.
Reida directed the heat scanner around the room. Apart from us, nothing came up.
“I think we’ve seen enough to report to gamra and possibly identify this ship’s origin,” Sheydu said, her voice low. “Let’s very quietly make our way back and get Leisha to pick us up before there is trouble.”
She flicked the light back on, and led the way back into the short corridor, into the broken stairwell, past the corridors with the doors in the floor and ceilings.
