It was just after eleven Thursday night when we made our way through the vacant lot behind Tanner’s house. Thankfully, there was no moonlight and no street lights to make the job more difficult than it already was. When possible, we used the bushes along one side, and then a partially demolished shed a few feet from the edge of the lot to hide our movements.
We were dressed in dark clothing—including gloves and ski masks we’d donned before we got to the lot. I had a black backpack for the sniper rifle.
