Chapter 3 Marie and the Underworld
The skeleton hand pulled Marie easily out of her childhood bed. Somehow, she knew she wouldn't land on the carpeted floor. She knew she would sink right through it, and she did.
She did not pass GO. She did not collect two hundred dollars. She didn't even cut through the kitchen, which was located directly below her room. Once she'd been dragged off the bed, she found herself underground. How could she tell she was underground? Maybe it was the earthy aroma. Maybe it was the moisture of the soil she could somehow breathe within, even though it was all around her.
