Chapter 6 Jess Discovers the Truth
When the buzzer by the door sounded, Jess struggled to heave himself off the couch. It buzzed again and again. That gritty, metallic noise caused Jess to grind his teeth.
“I'm coming, I'm coming!” Jess grunted, hoisting himself to his feet. When he got to the buzzer, he pressed the button and asked, “What?”
The voice that came through the speaker simply said, “Pizza.”
“Come in,” Jess replied before pressing the access button.
He looked down at his clothes: board shorts and one of Tony's old T-shirts. Presentable enough. He sniffed his pits. Foul aroma. But he didn't have the time or the energy to shower, not with the pizza man on his way up.
