Chapter 6: Hedgehogs and KiwiSam woke up with Leo’s hair in his face and Leo’s head on his chest, and the sound of Leo’s phone alarm making a shimmery high-pitched science-fiction noise that went right through Sam’s ears. Leo, amazingly, stayed asleep.
“Oh my God,” Sam said, and tried to reach Leo’s phone without moving. “No. f**k. Stop.”
The phone paused, but only in order to repeat the noise. Louder.
“Why,” Sam said to it, trapped. He wasn’t going to disturb the other half of his heart, who could evidently sleep through a shrieking sci-fi apocalypse. “Please stop.”
“Keep trying,” Leo said without stirring. He’d curled up against Sam even more in the night, legs tangled with Sam’s, cocooned in sheets. “It might work.”
