Rex cautioned me as we walked towards Sandra’s door. It was ripped off the hinges.
He placed his hand out as if to stop me.
“Let me get in there first,” he says, “I’ll let you know when it’s alright to come in.”
I nod.
“Be careful,” I whisper as he removes his gun from its holder, and slowly enters the house.
My heart echoed in my chest as I awaited his signal. I silently hoped that if Sandra was in there, that she was okay and in one piece. If anything happened to her, it would be my fault . . . her blood would be on my hands.
Rex returned after a few minutes, “it’s clear.”
I quickly enter the house, and he lets me surpass him I make it into the living room, covering my back.
Everything was shattered.
