The drums and chants of the Green Corn Dance rang through the village. The first ears had been boiled and tied to the four poles above the fire and offered to the Great Spirit. As soon as the dance was ended the entire village would feast on the ears that were now roasting in the fire pits. The smell of the roasting corn made Robert’s mouth water and his stomach rumble. Daniel, apparently, had been forgiven for his lack of understanding regarding the corn. He had been chosen to dance along with the other men and women who represented the people in giving thanks through the dance. Robert watched with pleasure. Daniel had nearly mastered the dance.
