Chapter Thirteen
The gloomy day closed in around her
and the dark house and the dreary sky and the thickening clouds overhead clinging to their stores of rain put her in a somber mood. No anger this time, just the lingering effects of being alone too long in the house where Ben belonged with her. Hed left for five days in New York, business he said. And though she trusted him, her mind slipped easily into imaginings of unfaithfulness that ripped a hole in the serenity of the last few weeks of bliss. She desperately wanted him back, but refused to become a nuisance by calling him without a decent reason.
