Lucien:
“What do you mean that the rogues couldn’t get her?” I growled, snapping at my men who avoided my eyes. “Not only has she left the pack without being seen, but even the rogues couldn’t get a f*****g hold on a small woman?”
“She was your fiancé, why did you think we chose her of all people to be your Luna?” Father asked, entering the meeting room. He looked at me, crossing his arms over his chest, and I pinched the bridge of my nose before nodding at the men to leave us alone.
“You are losing sight of what is supposed to be important.” He said, and I scoffed.
“I lost my woman the night she spread herself to that enemy Alpha. Had it been up to me, she would have been long dead, but her blood, her healing power, is of use to us.” I said, looking him in the eye as he poured himself a glass of scotch. He poured one for me and walking toward me, I could see his anger and faint amusement in his eyes.
“She was never your woman to begin with. She wouldn’t have wanted to be with you had we not insisted. And you know… you did not make sure to hold onto her. You are the one who let her be with Alexander.” He said, looking me in the eye, his menacing smile not reaching his eyes.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, but you do.” He said, causally. “You thought if she slept with Alexander, I would call off the marriage. You were surprised when I said that you shouldn’t. You let her be a disgrace, and that disgrace, now, more than ever, is taunting you.”
“She chose her way.”
“And you allowed it, thinking that she would come back to you.” He said, taking a seat. “But you have failed to realize that she…”
“She is his mate.” I said, stopping him.
“That would make the blow more painful.” He said, smirking. “A child, and a mate. Such a fool… I thought she was smarter, carrying around shawls, and bags with herbs to hide her pregnancy. I must say, I am impressed.”
He got up from the chair and gave me the glass, but just before I held it, he dropped it, making my eyes widen in surprise as the glass shattered on the floor. He chuckled and shook his head at me. “See this glass on the floor? I want you to put it back together.”
“It is impossible to do so.”
“Much like your agreement with her the second she slept with him.” He said, making me frown. “But since she chose to cross a boundary, one which you gave her the freedom to do when you refused to lock her up like I told you, you are going to be sure that she pays a price. And that price is going to be one that I decide for her.”
“And what exactly are you going to do?” I asked, and he smirked.
“First, your rogues failed to get her because Alexander got her first.” He said, making me frown. “And second, you are not the wisest when you choose your men to go after a woman. You wanted her, you should have followed her yourself. She is your property, but you wanted her dead.”
“I didn’t want…”
“And that is what you are going to get.” He said, stopping me. “But not yet.”
“What do you mean?”
“She is no longer going to be valuable. When others find out that she ran to the enemy, that she is carrying his child, it would be treason to our laws to keep her alive. And for that, she is going to die.” He said calmly. “But first, we are going to do it in a smarter way. We will wait until he is attached to her.”
“And what guarantees that it is going to happen? She could run away again.”
“She can, but she will not.” He said, walking toward the window. He stared at the pack members, training, and I knew that his eyes landed on one person. The delta that I was seeing, or in other words, that I was screwing. Lisa…
“She is going to stay because she will believe that she is safe. And once she does, when she lets her guard down, I am going to be sure that the final strike comes from me. Alexander, however, rather than die… as it would break most of our alliances, would be alive, but dead inside as he loses his significant other.” He said, his voice holding an amusement that I hadn’t heard in a while. “You are going to be arranged to someone different. We need a strong blood, and we will need to find a healer.”
“You need obedience.”
“And blood.” He said, shrugging his shoulders as he kept his eyes on my Lisa.
“Lisa and you are not going to continue on with your affair. That is, if you want her to live.” He said, making me frown.
“That is not for you…” he turned to face me before I could say a word, wrapping his fingers around my chin, forcing my eyes on his. His fingers dug into my skin, both cutting and bruising.
“After you chose to screw up your first arrangement, under the lies of love, and affairs… you are not going to choose anything. And if you want her to live to the next morning, you are going to end your affair. Otherwise, losing her is going to be the least of your problems.” He said, stopping me. “As for Alessia, her fate is in my hands now. And those who let her go, be it your men or whoever you paid as a rogue… well, let’s just say that they’ve just taken their last breaths.”
“Father…” he took a step past me before turning, patting my shoulder twice.
“This is how you lead,” he said calmly. “You best learn to do so. Else, I am going to find someone who is more qualified for the job…”
