Eli didn’t see Rob at all for nearly two weeks after that.
Frankly, it was torture. Things between Eli and his parents had never been so bad, not even after Eli had lashed out and hit his father. Mum was trying to pretend nothing had happened; Dad could barely look him in the face. Something had broken, and Eli neither knew how to fix it, nor wanted to. But there was nowhere else to turn. He picked up as many shifts at the shop as the boss would give him. Rob had scored a few shifts over the New Year working security at a couple of the dodgier clubs in the city centre that weren’t too fussed about a guy’s record.
