Chapter 12The first blast was a glancing blow to port, but it still hurled Jack and Cherise from bed.
“Lifeboat,” he screamed at her over the screech of wounded steel and injured ship. He shoved her that way and pulled himself toward the cubby where they'd made Misty a makeshift bunk.
“What is it?” she squealed over the noise.
“I don't know,” he said, but he did know, and he expected a second blast any moment.
The gravgen failed, and Misty went tumbling.
“Just ball yourself up,” he told her, demonstrating by pulling his knees to his chest.
Practiced at moving around in the absence of gravity, Jack maneuvered her quickly toward the lifeboat.
Cherise was already strapped in. She grabbed Misty and strapped her in the other seat. There were only two.
