Chapter 10 – Rumours
One month later…
Savannah Michaelson
POV
Today’s been a long day, but it’s about to get even longer. I have cheer practice after school, we have a bunch of juniors and first years trying out for the team.
I didn’t really want to be in cheer, and I’ve been thinking about dropping out since my father is giving me more responsibilities within the company, but when I told Navy I was thinking about quitting she nearly had a heart attack. She didn’t want to be left alone in cheer without me.
Though I have no idea why she still wants to do cheer when the only reason she joined was to be close to Carlyle, but since the breakup the two seem to be friends in a weird way. I couldn’t figure them out. honestly, they were one big mystery to me.
I watch my best friend speak one of the juniors.
Leigh didn’t want to join the cheer team and we didn’t force her since she was uncomfortable with it. Sometimes I don’t even know how Navy and I are friends with Leigh, she’s not like us. She’s conservative when Navy and I would wear miniskirts and crop tops. But Leigh is the most loyal person and she’s always had our backs when we needed it. She’s really good at giving advice too. Though not about s*x of course. She doesn’t judge Navy and I. we haven’t hid anything from her, and the fact that I lost my virginity at fifteen, she didn’t even bat an eye when I told her, though Asher was always going to be my husband. I doubt she would have said anything anyway.
"Dear God look what the cat dragged in, if it isn’t Trasha…" I look at Navy, we were sitting on the bench waiting for the team and recruits to walk in.
Her face curled in disgust; I follow her line of sight.
I clear my throat and stand up; many people were watching us. “Are you thinking about joining the squid?” I ask with a kind smile.
Melissa doesn’t say anything but flinches at my tone.
I frown. I honestly didn’t hate the girl and I didn’t do anything mean, everyone was watching the show, this was going to turn into something bigger…
“You can sit over there by the other recruits; we’re waiting another five minutes for everyone to show up…” I tell her gently before turning away.
I sit back down beside Navy…
"What are we doing about Trasha? I can't stand her anymore, what’s with that fake flinch? Is she trying to make people hate you?" Navy’s lips curl up in a sneer.
I don’t say anything at first. I was calm because I didn’t really care if these people liked me or not. I’m not here to please them. Yet my insides are begging for me not to lie to myself. I was a people pleaser, hell I’m marrying a man I hate to please my parents, I’m on the cheer team because Navy didn’t want to try out alone.
“Are you even listening to me? You’re just going to let that b***h walk all over you, aren’t you?” Navy glares at me.
I shake my head. “No, I was just thinking… Honestly I couldn’t careless, she can do whatever she wants, it’s not going to change who rules this school…” I say before standing up.
"I mean you got the guy but, I don’t like she got to be with your man, you should punish her for touching your things. I totally think she’s the reason that drama went public. She’s trying to take your place and she should be put into hers, and you have to do it." Navy stands beside me glaring at Melissa.
Honestly, if this hadn’t gone public, I wouldn’t care, but now that I think about it, she must have known Asher and I were together, even engaged when she slept with him. Yet she still went through with it.
"What are you suggesting?" I ask calmly...
“Nothing serious, just a little messing with her. Show her, her place in this school is the bottom of the barrel.” Navy crosses her arms and looks over at me.
I look down at my clothes. I changed into my LV tracksuit. (Brown with the beige LV print.” I had a pair of white LV sneakers to match.
"I heard from a girl in Bio she’s bragging about Asher and saying he’ll leave you for her. Jokes on her everyone’s seen how Asher ignores her. She knows you won’t do s**t so she’s taking advantage of your kindness." Navy says before she walks over to the recruits.
That makes me think, she’s obviously not as innocent as she pretends to be. Asher wouldn’t dream about leaving me. There’s too much on the line for that to happen. If Asher was truly leaving me, he would have told her the risks, and he also would have told her she would remain a side chick until we get married next year.
For some reason I couldn’t stop myself from laughing out loud. I don’t say anything.
The rest of the afternoon is spent watching the girls to see what they can do. Navy, Silvia, and I are judging the girls based on their performance of course. It’s the only time this school is actually fair. It doesn’t matter if you come from money or not. I can remember a routine and do it effortlessly you get in.
"What do you think?" Navy asks once all the girls are done…
I shrug my shoulders same old same old.
"I’m not sure yet… But what about the second girl?" Silvia asks.
"Honestly I don’t want any of them." Navy says loudly.
All the girls look at her annoyed. Navy’s been mean to each and everyone of them. she’s told them to their faces they sucked. I believe there are quite a number of them who have already killed her in their minds.
"Navy…" I scold her.
"I’m just being honest. Some of you are only doing this to get close to Savannah anyway." She shrugs her shoulders.
I roll my eyes. "How about we go about it by eliminating those who we don’t want in?” I suggest.
"Works for me…" Silvia says.
Navy nods as well.
"I want Melissa Evans to be eliminated, she’s not good enough…" Navy says defiantly.
I sigh, I should have known this would happen. I turn to Silva. “What do you think?” I ask.
She shrugs. “Fine by me…” she says.
Then I nod. “Okay, sorry Melissa…” I say to her.
She looks disappointed before she bursts out crying before running off.
“I guess that was a little mean to her.” Silvia says softly.
McKenna walks in as we’re talking about who else to eliminate.
"You're late..." I said calmly, I don’t even look at her. Mckenna Strongmen, her sister was the head cheer leader last year and she took advantage showing off in front of everyone and looking down on everyone. We all hated her with everything in us.
"Does it matter?" she shrugs her shoulders.
"The team spoke yesterday, and we decided that it would be best if you’re off the team. We’ve already selected someone to take your spot." Silvia explains calmly.
"You have no right to kick me off the team!" She screamed out and stomps her foot, like she always does when she doesn’t get her way.
"It was a unanimous decision, even if I wanted you on the team, I have no right to object. It was put to a vote, and no one voted for you to remain on the team Mckenna." I explain standing up and walking over to her with the votes, I knew she’d want it as proof.
"No! No! No! That's not right, my sister is Captain, she’ll get you all kicked off the team!" she shouts.
The other girls around look at who is supposed to be their senior throw a tantrum.
I sigh handing her the votes. "Your sister was captain, and I was voted next captain, not only by the rest of the team but by your sister as well. It doesn’t matter whether you throw a tantrum or not, you still won’t on the team. So, I suggest you leave, we’re currently in the middle of something, thank you." I point at the door.
She huffs and turns around and leaves...
“I’m going to post a notice on the school’s forum to let you all know who got in. I’m sorry to end this, like this but I’m exhausted, and I’ve got to get to work…” I explain.
Everyone nods and begins to leave. I walk over to the bleachers taking a seat. I close my eyes. I had a headache.
I had to get to the office to check on the progress of the project. We’re a month in and I’ve been juggling work and school terribly.
I’m exhausted, I didn’t drop any of my electives, so I’m on every single elective our school has to offer plus work.
Asher’s doing a lot better than I am. But I know once the hockey season kicks in, I’ll have to pick up the slack.
“Hey, are you ready to go?” I open my eyes to see Asher standing by the gym door.
I sigh getting up. “Yeah, let me grab my bag.” I tell him.
He nods.
When I walk back out, he’s standing by the door leaning against it, I pause when I see Melissa standing beside him. She looks at him shyly.
“What do you want?” he asks her.
“Asher, I-I really enjoyed our time together in Chicago, I would like to date you…” she says teary eyed.
Asher looks at her annoyed. “I don’t know what the f**k you’re talking about. I only f****d you because Savannah was away. There’s no way I would have even given you a second look if she was in Chicago with me…” he crosses his arms and glares at her.
She flinches and runs off crying.
“You enjoy the show?” Asher asks looking at me.
I shrug my shoulders and walk out of the gym.
“She’s been telling people you’re dumping me for her…” I inform Asher, so he can deal with the mess he’s made.
“She’s what?” he asks.
“Navy told me. Someone in her Bio class told her…” I tell him.
“Who would have thought the weak little mouse has the balls to actually try to mess with me…” he mumbles.
I don’t say anything. “Were you at the site?” I ask.
“Yeah, everything looks good. There hasn’t been movement from them in a month it’s quite alarming if you ask me…” Asher says softly.
He’s worried that the people trying to sabotage us, do something worse than mess with the plans or pay our contractors off.
