I gently stroked Xheree’s hair as she slept, the soft strands slipping through my fingers like liquid silk. Three hours had passed since we were together, and I had drifted off before her. Now, I woke to the shrill ring of my cellphone, the sound cutting through the quiet of the room.
I sighed, a low, heavy sound that seemed to echo in the stillness. “Maybe you don’t know how beautiful you are,” I murmured to the sleeping figure beside me. “Maybe you don’t understand how much I protect you. I don’t want you talking to any other man… only me.”
