Beverly stood atop the walls of Kingsford, looking down at the docks. After so many years of being cut off from the sea, it was strange to see masts jutting up from below. The river itself was frozen solid, locking these ships in until the spring thaw.
The first thing she'd done upon arriving had been to send scouts to the river's western banks to give advanced warning should the enemy make an appearance. However, it appeared the Clans were content to sit out the winter in the warmth of their cities.
She made her way to the stairs, then descended into the practice yard. Hayley was there, along with close to a hundred rangers, loosing arrows at targets to keep their skills sharp. The High Ranger, spotting the red-headed knight, wandered over to meet her
