Lex held Imp’s reins as he stood next to Rio at the rail of the arena while they watched the calf roping. Lex had put in a good run, roping the calf and tying it off in just over seven seconds. That was the current time to beat.
Without turning his way, Rio, chewing on a stick of straw, said, “You ain’t never told me what’s goin’ on with Trent.” He nodded in the direction of the start box where Trent sat on his horse, coiling his lariat while the rider before him had his run. “Was I right about him?”
“Yeah, ya were,” Lex admitted.
“So, is he interested?”
Lex nodded. “Yeah, he is.”
Rio turned to face Lex. “Well, s**t! What are ya doin’ messin’ around with me? Why didn’t ya say somethin’?”
