Lex and Trent sat in Lex’s rig. Imp and Dixie were in the trailer. All of the two cowboys’ belongings were packed in the truck bed and trailer tack room. Lex had turned off the main highway onto a two-track lane and stopped. They looked up at a sign hanging from a wooden arch above a stone gateway.

The sign was swaying slightly in the breeze that came off the prairie.
They’d emptied Trent’s truck and trailer of all his belongings. The vehicles themselves and much of the tack were owned by Trent’s daddy. Trent said he wanted to be free of everything that connected him to the old man. So, as they pulled out of the fairgrounds, Trent had handed the keys to a dumbfounded Stan Miller.
