Chapter 4 Disgusting Liar

Adrian appeared to be a gentleman, but his words often had a flirty undertone that completely contradicted his polished exterior. Vivian pressed her lips together. In just two interactions, she realized he was nothing like the aloof and distant figure portrayed by the media. Before she could respond, Adrian switched gears to work mode. He stretched out his long legs and took the file from Vivian's hands, flipping through a few pages. "This project, as it stands, has far more downsides than upsides." His serious demeanor made Vivian momentarily dazed, as if she had just been overthinking things. Adrian finished speaking and turned to Vivian when he didn't get a response. "Ms. Mitchell?" Vivian snapped back to reality and quickly composed herself. "This project isn't a quick-profit venture. The initial returns may not be high, but the long-term benefits are stable and substantial." Adrian asked, "How can you guarantee that?" Vivian remained composed. "I will prepare a detailed proposal with all the data. The numbers will speak for themselves." Adrian was impressed with her professional attitude and abilities. He smiled, closing the file. "I hope you won't disappoint me." Their conversation paused as the car arrived at the construction site. Vivian got out of the car, and the site supervisor, Leo, immediately approached her with a safety helmet. "Ms. Mitchell, what brings you here?" Leo was an old acquaintance of Vivian. Despite her short time at the headquarters, she had been hands-on with every project, earning respect and affection from the employees. Vivian took the helmet with a smile. "Could you get me two more helmets, please?" Leo then noticed the distinguished-looking man and his assistant, David, standing behind her. "Sure, give me a second." He quickly ran off and returned with two more helmets. Vivian handed one to Adrian and the other to David. David took his helmet promptly, but Adrian looked at it, not taking it immediately. Vivian raised an eyebrow. "Anything wrong?" Adrian looked down at her. "I've never put one on. Could you help me?" His demeanor was polite and serious, not at all like someone trying to be difficult. Vivian sighed and stepped forward. Adrian stood tall, not bending to accommodate her height. Vivian frowned, forced to stand on tiptoe. As she did, Adrian placed his hand on her waist. Vivian's body tensed, and she looked at Adrian warily. Adrian's expression remained calm and collected. "Thank you." Vivian's nerves were taut. "You're welcome." Just as she suspected, Adrian could be charmingly roguish even when being professional, making it hard for her to get mad at him. After securing Adrian's helmet strap, Vivian turned to see Leo's surprised expression. "Leo," she called out, breaking his trance. Leo quickly recovered, smiling awkwardly before leading them through the site with polite small talk. The site was set to become a retirement home, nestled amidst picturesque landscapes of rolling hills and tranquil lakes. Originally, Prosperity Holdings planned to handle it independently, but halfway through, they faced funding issues and had to open it for bidding. The site was littered with construction materials. Vivian walked beside Adrian, guiding him while explaining the project's details. "This location is one of the best in Eiffel City. Most elderly people prefer quiet surroundings. This area is away from the hustle and bustle but still has all the necessary amenities." She added, "Prosperity Holdings aims to make this a high-end retirement home, so you can be assured of its profitability." Vivian had done extensive homework and was well-versed in every aspect of the project. Just as she was about to finish her explanation, her phone buzzed in her pocket. Vivian paused briefly but continued her introduction. After wrapping up, she checked her phone. There were two messages from Henry, her ex-boyfriend. Henry: Are you okay? Henry: Mr. Black just called me. I told him the man you were with last night was me. Seeing Henry's messages made Vivian feel sick. She started to type a reply when she heard a mocking voice behind her. "Your boyfriend is very understanding." Adrian stood behind her, hands in his pockets, a glint of mockery in his eyes. When Vivian turned to look at him, he glanced down at her before turning to talk to Leo about the site. Watching Adrian's seamless emotional control, Vivian decided not to dwell on it and replied to Henry. Vivian: We're already broken up. Henry responded immediately. Henry: Come on, baby. You need me, don't you? How else will you explain the car s*x scandal? So desperate that you couldn't wait until you got home? If your colleagues knew how shameless and irresponsible you were, would they trust you with important projects? He followed his taunt with a supposedly kind offer. Henry: Our wedding will proceed as planned. I won't ask who the man was, and you'll forget about my past mistake, alright? Vivian couldn't help but laugh coldly. This tactic might work on others, but it only deepened her disgust. She typed back. Vivian: You're disgusting.
