Chapter 6
“Come out tonight,” Maxi said on the bus home.
Tab usually walked home, but after their morning session they’d gone into the town centre, and then the weather had been Terribly British, What-Ho, and rained all over the place. (Maxi had said it was ‘like c*m from a w***e’s drawers’ because she was the crudest person Tab had ever met.) So they caught the X44 back out, and Maxi announced the veiled request (order) before the bus had even escaped the high street.
“Why?”
“Because me and Demi are going out—a pint and pool in The Fox and Duck—so you should come and check him out for yourself.”
Tab reddened.
“You’ll come,” Maxi repeated firmly. “It’ll be like a date. Kind of. I’ll even fake a phone call after the first twenty minutes and leave you two alone.”
