“So where were we going?” I asked.
I noticed Garrett tightening his hands on the steering wheel, confusing me.
“To my home,” he said.
The ride was silent from then on. What were we even supposed to say? I had no words as I replayed the events of the night in my head. I still hoped it was all just a terrible dream from which I would wake, but a small voice in my mind told me that wasn’t going to happen.
Luckily, at some point, I fell asleep, only to be gently nudged awake by Garrett. I looked over at him, his face illuminated only by the moonlight.
“Are we here?” I inquired, looking around.
He nodded, but as I reached for the handle, he gently grabbed my arm. “This place… I-I don’t live alone, and the people inside, well, they…”
“They don’t know about me, do they?” I asked.
