“Tell me that barbarian is not the sea captain you hired.” My brother says harsly.
I'm grateful for the dark confines of the carriage. The heat sears my face, and I'm certain I am now scarlet. James has just delivered our aunt to her residence and is now escorting me home.
My other brothers left the ball at different times to head to their clubs. It seems James, however, is taking his role as the oldest brother to the extreme.
"Good Goddess, he is, isn't he?" James asks.
"I knew him only as Captain Crimson Sam," I admit reluctantly. I can't see lying about it will help. I don't need him making inquiries along the docks. Sooner or later, he is bound to uncover the truth anyway. Better to control the discovery and subsequent consequences.
He huffs. "What a colorful moniker."
