“Ah, kid.” Dark red swept over his face, but he looked happy.
“Where’s my shirt?”
“Here it is.” He handed it to me.
There was a little questioning rumble, and we both turned to find the sabretooth watching us. At his feet was another rabbit-like animal. He nudged it toward us.
“Looks like we might have a pet.”
“You think so?”
“Well, I’m not about to look a gift bunny in the mouth.” My lover chuckled. The sabretooth looked at us with hopeful eyes. “Yes, you can have the insides.”
On a whim, I repeated the words in Latin, and it bounded forward and knocked me over. I didn’t have time to be scared, though. It swiped a sandpaper tongue over my arm. “Hey!”
“Looks like you’ve made a conquest, kid.”
“Yeah?” I reached a tentative hand toward it and rubbed its ears. “Thank you for the rabb
