“I see I’m quite famous. It’s an honor to be known by such great warriors,” Gin said. “It’s quite saddening that we have to meet under such circumstances, but I’ve come to ask for your help. The world as we know it might only exist for a while longer if we fail. Will you listen to my request?” Gin asked.
“You have a lot of guts for a guy who just attacked us. Why should we listen to you?” Harold asked. Harold was usually calm in situations like these. But the audacity from Gin was enraging. No one was higher in status than Atlan to him. Absolutely no one. And to see Gin speak to Atlan in that manner enraged him.
“The Hakuri finally speaks. I was partly hoping you would interfere. I wanted to face one in actual combat. All I have ever heard are legends. Legends no one can confirm because your kind shut themselves away from the outside world. But here you are in the flesh. Outside, just like everyone else.,” Gin said. There was a calm demeanor about him. Almost soothing to hear him talk. He was confident as he was strong.
“Oh, what gave me away? Rumors too? Surely you must have heard there was a Hakuri amongst the Elites?” Harold teased. This time, he decided to walk between Atlan and Gin. Irrespective of who he claimed to be, Harold was nowhere near trusting him.
The Nura was an elite squad amongst the Arvins, rumored to be the most powerful Arvins before the Ahovin empire fell. It was a generational squad that always consisted of five members. These five members would always be replaced whenever a member died. Even if they decided to desert the group, they can only be replaced if they die. The Nura possessed special abilities. They were bestowed these abilities when the humans and the dragons first formed a pact on Ahovin. Each member had different abilities that were usually connected to which faction of the special humans they belonged to. The leader of the Nura was called the Beast. He had physical strength and almost unrivaled combat ability. Gin Akuma was the Beast of the Nura.
“From the moment I saw you hold your bow, I knew you weren’t just anyone. That grip, that concentration, I was certain the rumors had to be true. A wandering Hakuri. Are you a rogue? Did you think that your singular action of coming to the outside world absorbs your clan’s years of cowardice? Where were they when Ahovin fell?” Gin snapped. No one had seen a Hakuri since the mega dragon incident. Harold’s appearance was mostly rumored to be a hoax. Why would any one of them leave the clan? Hakuris were not kind people. Desertion meant death. And yet, there Harold stood. Alive and well. If they wanted him dead, he would be dead already. It was a fact. The mere fact that he was still alive was not because of his strength. He was important to the Hakuri. So much so that they left him alive. If that gave him the delusion that he was noble or different from the rest of the Hakuri traitors that abandoned Ahovin when she needed them, Gin intended to abolish the thought immediately.
“You were there. What could do about it, o mighty and the great beast,” Harold riposted. There was truth in Gin’s words but it didn’t let it hurt less.
"I know how Hakuris treat exiled members. How are you still alive?” Gin asked.
“That’s enough, Gin. Remember where you are. I won’t take you insulting my family,” Atlan snapped. He had heard enough. Gin would have replied, but he needed them to listen to what he had to say. Atlan at least. And he just called them his family. He had to be mindful of how he treated them then.
“My apologies,” Gin bowed.
“Could you all wait for us inside? I’ll like to speak with Gin alone,” Atlan said. They all hesitated. Gin was no adorable personality. And to top it all off, he was dangerous as well. But they had to leave. Even though they were in, they stayed in places they could see the two clearly. Harold in particular had his bow loaded just in case Gin tried anything funny. He wasn’t going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
“So, what exactly is it that brings you here, Gin?” Atlan asked.
“The mega dragons are planning something even bigger than last time. If we don’t stop them before they succeed, we are all doomed. We might be able to live like this because they are letting us be, but we cannot be assured that they will stay quiet forever. Many might believe that the mega dragons came to rule us, but I believe they came here to replace us instead. it’s been a gradual process, but more than two-third of the world has already been conquered. There a few free places and the only place that is free on Ahovin are those inhabited by the guardians. But without the dragons there, their power will run out in less than a year. We have little time now,” Gin said.
The thing was, even though the mega dragons had invaded most of the earth, they still let the humans live. Other than the dragons, they were the biggest threat. Even if they needed them to work, the mega dragons had the Egorks under their control. It was still unknown why they left the humans alive but most attributed it to the idea that the mega dragons came to conquer them and not wipe them out.
But the dragons weren’t so lucky. Those who failed to submit to the mega dragons or flee were killed immediately. Leaving the dragons unchecked was by far too much of a risk.
“Gin, you failed before. What makes you think we have a chance now?” Atlan asked. Even though he knew Gin, he didn’t trust him. Certainly not enough to put the life of he and his men in his hands.
“Because if we don’t, we’ll all be dead before we get a second chance,” Gin replied sternly.
