Winter came again, and the house remained vacant still. Jase ran down the snow-covered street and lay down behind a bush growing by the crossroads, watching the main road. He kept doing it ever since Beth had gone. He believed. He believed that one day Beth would come back. There indeed was just something Beth needed to do before she came back. He clung to that hope as if it was the only thing that kept him going… and probably it was. He was watching the road until late afternoon when the howling of his pack called him back. Neither today did Beth come back… He stood up and trotted back into the forest. Beth didn’t come today, but maybe she will come tomorrow, he said to himself as he did countless times before.
