The Misogynist Pig

Kelly She stepped into the waiting area and saw Miss Janice talk on the landline phone. “Okay,” Janice responded into the phone while Kelly waited to take her to leave. Janice disconnected the call and asked Kelly to wait for some more time. It was new to Kelly. Why did she need to wait when she already knew that the big boss did not really like her reply? Apparently, the younger boss and the CEO of Papa Lombardi’s was going to interview her now. She sat down on the same couch as before, wondering what he would be like. She had read up a little on the Lombardis. Bill had retired, but after the accident that killed Riccardo Lombardi, Bill’s son and the CEO Leonardo Lombardi Jr’s father, he must have joined in again. It was a little disheartening to know that Bill had lost his son. Kelly knew how difficult it was to say a final goodbye to your children. Alex had lost his daughter a few weeks back. The teenager had been brutally assaulted and killed. The case was still being investigated, but the detectives could find nothing. The culprit must have been the girl’s mystery boyfriend. When she thought of it, that must have been one of the reasons for Alex’s ridiculous behaviour. But that was water under the bridge now. Janice called out her name, breaking her chain of thoughts. “Mr Lombardi Jr would like to meet you.” Did she get a hint of blushing there? But the expression was gone before Kelly could clearly catch it and Janice directed her towards the other office. The one in the corner. For an unknown reason, her heart raced. It wasn’t like she was giving an interview the first time, but she felt nervous. If she got this job, she would be lucky. Her savings would remain untouched and her CV would also remain impressive. Getting a job within a month of leaving the previous one would be a remarkable achievement. She knocked and pushed open the door. The handsome man with the looks of a Greek God looked up at her from his file. The tip of her blasted heel caught a loose thread from the carpet. She tripped and fell. Wow! I know how to make an entry for an important interview! She rolled her eyes mentally trying to check the damage. The heel was broken and her pencil skirt had ridden up her thighs, possibly exposing her panties. She did not dare to look at Leonardo Lombardi. That would have killed her confidence. Mortified, she got up with the confidence that she did not feel. Praying that he couldn’t see the trembling of her hands, she broke off the other heel, straightened out her skirt and walked over to the desk with her black leather handbag held in the crook of her arm. “Sorry, about that. My heel must have caught something. I don’t make it a habit to make a disastrous entry in my interviews.” She chuckled nervously, trying to gain control over her racing heart. Laughing at herself had usually saved her from going into panic mode in the past. She prayed that the laughter gave her lungs enough oxygen to avoid another one. She stood in front of the desk observing Leonardo Lombardi Jr. His Darkest Brown, almost black hair was slicked back and tied into a pony. His olive skin looked tanned and a hint of a tattoo showed up near the collar of his black suit. His jade green eyes sparkled, in mirth or in anger, she wasn't sure. With his broad shoulders, mild stubble on his chin and straight bushy eyebrows in a frown, he looked like a royal in his empire, sitting on his office chair with an expansive view of the Manhattan skyline around him. The glass walls made the room look a lot bigger than it actually was. He grunted, and his perfect lips moved as he gestured for her to sit in the chair in front of him. "That's alright. Can happen to anyone." She sighed in relief. He was going to understand after all, and then he added. "Nothing like a bit of a show of inner- wear to get the right attention!" What an asshole! "What do you mean? That I did that on purpose?" She asked angrily. How could a man speak something like this? Was it even allowed to talk about women's inner- wear in an interview? Whatever happened to sexually sensitive comments and harassment laws? "Your reaction is so out of place. I am not the one who wore a tiny skirt to an interview and then fell in front of the young eligible bachelor to attract attention." He shrugged. "Let's get to the interview now. Or do you have more tricks up your sleeve?" "Excuse me? What do you think of yourself?" She couldn't control it anymore. She had had enough of the male dominance all around her! The guy's arrogance was getting to her now. "Oh! Is it that time of the month for you?" He asked with all innocence. "Should I be more careful in talking to you?" "Who do you think you are?" She got up angrily and picked up her handbag that she had placed on the floor when she sat. "I don't think I want to continue this charade of an interview anymore." "Obviously! You have already used your charm on my grandfather. Before you walked in and fell, he had already called me and asked me to cancel all the other interviews. He is visibly impressed with the pilot lady and wants us to hire. What did you do to gain traction with him?" He grumbled. "And you have already decided that I am getting this job because of my gender and not my skills, right?" She raised her voice, barely controlling her anger. The guy was impossible. She had seen enough misogynist pigs in her lifetime to identify one when she saw one. "You can tell your grandfather that I declined the job offer. I am not interested in working for someone who believes that I am a scheming b*tch driven by my hormones." "Are you sure? It is almost four times the money that you were earning at NYPD and as far as I know, you are not working with them anymore. Did you pick the wrong fights, or did your guardian angel get a transfer?" F*ck You! Kelly almost said that out loud, but even in her anger, she hit the brakes. She was there for an interview and she had to tolerate this a*sshole only for now. The world could not be changed only by her. It was clear, that Papa Lombardis, was also, a man's world! "Whatever! Goodbye Mr Lombardi," she turned around and left. If she wouldn't have met this guy, she would have taken this job. She was grateful for this interview. Kelly did not know how civil her reactions would have been if she had met him after taking up the job. ***
