I looked at the calendar on my desk in some surprise.
Five years. Jeremy had been gone five years.
In that time, there had been no one. Oh, I was seen about town with any number of beautiful, seductive women, but accompanying them was as far as it went, although we were the only ones to know that. But I was a healthy male in my prime, and eventually my body had demanded physical release.
Even after all this time, however, I still dealt with it with my hand. It wasn’t that I felt s****l activity with a woman, or even with another man for that matter, would be a betrayal of my lover, but more that no one could measure up to him. I’d had gold. Why should I settle for dross?
