“Wow, the birthday cake is amazing, Sawyer” Ethan exclaims.
Startled by the sound of his voice behind me, I almost knock the cake off the table. When did he get here? I did not even hear the doorbell.
“Ethan, you should never sneak up on a baker like that," I admonish him, "You scared me, and I could have knocked the cake off the table.
“Can you blame me? Sneaking up on you is the only way to get to talk to you in private.” he quips, a playful glint in his eyes.
“Don't exaggerate.” I scold him as I continue my work.
