Chapter 11

CARSON

Looking ahead while staring at Zain, I was listening to Lucian on the phone. Telling us what was going on. It seems Leah had some sort of mental and fainted, so they sent an ambulance for her. It was coming here, for our pack doctors to have a look over. Only Josh and Jenny are coming back with her, while Lucian stays behind to deal with stuff.

Letting out a sigh and moving closer, while looking down at my phone. "Okay, make sure you are back by the weekend."

I hung up the phone and looked at Zain, my Beta. He looked on concerned. "That sounded intense. I wondered what happened to Leah for her to faint like that.”

I sighed. Knowing exactly what it could be about made me wonder where Jenny’s mental state was around this time.

"It seems they interrupted the funeral and Lucian, being Lucian, opened his big mouth," I gritted, knowing exactly how he is usually. Jenny had told me when the funeral was, I didn’t think she would go and get her daughter during the event. She could have at least waited for it to finish and not cause any problems. "The girl was frantic but also guessed that her mum left her father for Josh."

I knew all of this since Josh had mind-linked me while Jenny was getting things for her daughter and before Lucian rung us.

Zain stared at me, shocked. “How the hell did you know that? And how the hell did she work it out?"

Leaning back in my seat, I let out a sigh before answering his questions. "Josh had mind-linked with me before you came in here and Lucian rang us. But I have no clue; neither do Jenny and the others.”

Zain sighed. "Poor thing. She has had a lot to deal with over the last few days and is now coming here to a new place to, not to mention losing her father."

I nodded. My heart broke for the girl. Who would want to go through all of that? I sure as hell wouldn’t. I couldn't help but agree with him.

My eyes darted toward the clock and I sighed. "We got training. We should head to the training grounds.”

Zain nodded.

We both moved from the chairs and headed out of the office.

Training happens every day, throughout the day too. Different trainers’ workout throughout the day. Everyone is usually busy throughout the day. The rule of the pack is to train at least once a day; no exceptions.

My mind raced over from when Jenny and Lucian returned from the human town. The next day, they were back. The rogues entered the pack grounds and attacked. No one was seriously hurt. The rogues were dealt with; there were only ten that came through. Something about the attack had me on edge; it was random. The rogues looked like they were looking for something or someone. It made me paranoid. We have had rogues attack before, but lately they look to be coming after our pack more, which is odd since we have nothing to offer or anything they want.

Once the rogues were dealt with, I placed the pack on a strict lockdown routine till I remember Lucian running in, asking for permission for Jenny, Josh, and him to get Leah. I was initially hesitant, especially since she’s human but he stated that the girl and a woman lied to them about when she was supposed to finish school. It seemed that Leah had already completed schooling. I thought about it and agreed. I told them to leave soon, but that they were the only pack members that could leave. They planned everything down to when they were leaving.

Knowing the rest of my pack members would be safe in a lockdown, it kept me and Lynx calm. But still worried about Lucian, Josh and Jenny till I heard Lucian tell me the plan. Lucian is part of the pack but is a lawyer first. We work with a witch who has given him a potion to disguise their scent. He took some with him for the others, just in case rogues were around. I had them leave last night to get there today, but I didn't realize it would be the father's funeral.

Zain and I walked toward the pack training ground; everyone was there except Josh, Lucian and Jenny.

I nodded toward the trainer to get started while Zain and I watched. We usually train with everyone, but I wanted to keep an eye on people to make sure they were following what the trainer was doing, since I had some complaints about people not concentrating. I could feel eyes on me and looked at a she-wolf who had a smirk on her face.

I frowned till I looked over to Zain, who was smirking back. Rolling my eyes, I can’t take this i***t anywhere. "Dude, she's supposed to be training. Organize your s****l activity afterward."

Zain sighed. "You are so stressed, man. You need to get laid," he said, then turned to look at me with a grin. "And by the way, I was organizing a little get-together with her and her friend, Rachel, late this evening."

I growled, knowing exactly where this was going, and I wasn’t going to take any part in the damn thing. Don’t get me wrong, I like to have some fun, but I have been avoiding she-wolves like the plaque since they like to cause problems. Problems I don’t have time for.

"f**k, no. I am not f*****g any she-wolves,” I murmured, glaring at him. Zain knows how I am and this hasn’t been on my to-do list for a while. Over the years, people have been begging me to look for my Luna, but when I do, I have time to do a search. I don’t want anyone. I want what my father and mother have, a mate bond. The way my father would look at my mother, it was like she hung the moon. The love they had was something out of a fairy tale. And it’s not just them I look up to, it is others around the pack, the older generation. Mates are the way to go. I won’t say I have been celibate since I have slept with women in the past, but they knew when they got with me that it was only for one night. And then I would leave before they woke up.

Zain looked at me with wide eyes while he held his hands up in surrender. "Sorry, I didn't mean to. But Carson, you deserve to have some fun too, and not to be serious all the time," he said and went to carry on when he was cut off by the sound of sirens coming onto the pack grounds.

What the hell?

Then the phone call from Lucian came to mind. This had to be Leah coming in here. s**t, I thought we had a little more time before I had to say. Pack members would need to know, but they had to wait till we know more about what happened and what is wrong with her.
