“She certainly did,” the Earl readily agreed. He went below to the Master cabin, which was large and comfortable with an adjoining sitting room. The walls were all lined with endless books and the writing desk occupied much of the floor. It was a place where he could be alone and where he could think and work without interruptions. Now he told his Chief Steward to accommodate his guests well away from his own cabin and to tell his valet, who had been with him for many years, that he would be expected to valet the male guest.
