Luke's POV:
I forbid Abby to go to my parents' house. I know why she was there, but it was a mistake. I thought to call my mom, but I gave up. This woman is not worth my time. We probably would've ended up arguing again. I don't want this to happen. When she is ready to talk to me, she can come here. I won't be the one doing it. She can't forget about this. Not after the way she is treating my girlfriend. I know the problem is me, but she didn't do anything to her. I would like it if my mom apologized to Abby. I know this will never happen. My mom will never admit that she is wrong. I don't understand why my dad is still with her. It's visible that he loves her. What she does is wrong. He has to do something about it. I see he wants to fix everything. He has to talk with my mom if he wants to do it. I am open to conversations only if she comes here. I won't please her for anything. Before, it hurt when she was treating me like that. With time, I got used to this. I can't change her. Sam tried his best, but it didn't work. She didn't want to listen to him. My brother finally moved into his new office. He has the same job but in a different city. I see that he feels better at home. Maybe that is what he needed. Ace is going to his new kindergarten. Soon, Bailey will do it, too. That's why Sarah has to go to work. Well, if she doesn't get pregnant again. She loves that. The thing is that she can't keep making kids while Sam is working. Kids are expensive nowadays. I have seen how much baby clothes cost. The prices seem ridiculous to me. Abby and I will get dressed cheaper than one baby. That's why we don't have one. It's not the main reason, but one of them. Both of us like it when it's quiet. There is a chance we might change our minds, but I don't think so. I hope that kids won't enter our lives. I don't want to mess with this.
It's the middle of the week. I can't wait for the weekend to come. I probably spend too much time with Abby, but she is not complaining. I mean, both of us like it. If we had a kid, all the attention would be on it. I'm not saying it's that bad, but it's not something I like. No offense to all the fathers out there, but I don't want to be one. I'm not ready for that. That will take too much from my time dedicated to Abby. I will never let this happen.
I woke up and looked next to me. Abby is still sleeping. I wish we could lay in bed all day. That would be great. Sadly, we have to go to work. I slightly kissed the top of her head and got up. I went to get ready and later made breakfast. I try to make different meals, but sometimes, we eat leftovers from the previous day. Today, we'll have waffles. I haven't made them in a long time. When I was ready, I went to check on Abby. I don't want to wake her up, but I have to. Otherwise, she will be late for work.
- Abby.
- Huh?
- Will you wake up? Breakfast is ready.
- Five more minutes.
- I will gladly leave to sleep, but you will be late for work.
- I don't want to go.
- Me either, but we have to. If you want, I will take you to the table.
- No need to. I will do it. - she said, yawning
- Go and get ready. I will make the bed.
- Thank you. Can I get a good morning kiss?
- Sure. You don't have to ask. - I said and kissed her
- Thanks.
Both of us had a peaceful breakfast. Abby was still sleepy. She went to bed early last night, but I guess she is tired. My girlfriend told me about the project she is working on with her team. It sounded interesting, but I didn't understand anything from what she told me. I mean, I didn't study that. When we were ready, we walked out. I dropped Abby off at her office and went to mine. I checked myself and walked in. Soon Carmen came.
- Good morning, mister Adams. Do you want coffee?
- Thanks, but that will be later. I had one at home.
- Here is the schedule for today. You have a meeting after an hour.
- Ok, thank you. Is there any mail for me?
- Only one letter. It came yesterday around 5:30 pm. You were already out.
- Thanks, I will check it out.
- The man said it was urgent.
- Man?
- Yes. He wanted to meet you, but I told him you were home. Was I right?
- Yes, I was at home. Thank you, Carmen. You are great. I see your boyfriend has done his job. - I said, looking at her ring
- He finally decided to do it. The boy still blushes every time he is nervous. That's why I love him so much.
- You know he is a keeper.
- For sure, he is. I'm not letting him go.
- Good for you. Well, I have to work now. Call me if there is a problem.
- Ok, no problem.
- Thank you. - I said and walked to my office
The letter was on my desk. That can't be from a company. There isn't any logo or a name. Also, Carmen said it was urgent, according to the man. Now I got curious. I opened the letter and started reading it.
Dear mister Adams. I have seen the way you work. You are very good at your job. You impressed me the first time we saw each other. I would love to have someone as talented as you on my team. This is an unofficial letter. I want to talk with you before we make things official. Here is what I have to say. You are doing a great job. I know you won't leave anything before it's done. That's the type of people I like to work with. I want you to work for me if you agree. You don't have to worry about your salary. I will give you triple what you make in your current company. I have never paid anyone that much, but you are a great worker. Think about this. If you want us to meet, call this number. Mister Donovan.
Does he want to work with me? I don't remember meeting him. I guess I have since he said that. That's a lot of money. Currently, I am making ten thousand a month. This man wants to give me thirty thousand. It sounds too easy. I wonder where the catch is. There is something wrong here. Also, I don't want to change my job. I might get more money, but I won't be sure I will work with the same people. I mean, like attitude.
I walked out and went to miss Baker's office. She is not my boss anymore, but she can tell me what to do. I knocked on the door, and her assistant let me in. I smiled at Bella and walked in.
- Hey, Luke. Is there a problem?
- I want us to talk about something.
- Sure. What is going on?
- Carmen gave me this letter. She said it came late yesterday. After I was gone.
- What is it about?
- Read it. I think there is a catch here. - I said and gave her the letter
Miss Baker started reading the letter. She didn't look happy but didn't say anything. I want to know what she thinks. After all, thanks to her, I am still here. I wouldn't have this job without her.
- Well?
- The decision is yours.
- You don't like him, do you?
- He is a good person. The thing is that his company is a rival to ours.
- I see.
- On the other side, he offers you a lot of money.
- I know, but I have no idea who I will work with. What if these people never like me?
- All I can tell you is to think about this. Choose what you believe is best for you. Also, talk with Abby. She knows what is best for you.
- I know. Thanks, and I'm sorry if I wasted your time.
- No, you didn't do it. I'm glad you still search for me for things. - miss Baker said, chuckling
- Always. I got this job thanks to you.
- No, you got it because you have talent.
- If you want, we can go for lunch. I have a meeting in ten minutes.
- Ok, I won't deny it.
- Dave is welcome as well.
- I will tell him.
- I have to go now. See you later.
The meeting was fine. When it finished, I went for lunch. This time, I invited Carmen as well. I know she has to work, but I barely talk with her. Well, except for work. All of us walked in and ordered food. Soon, it came.
- I heard you have an offer for a job. - Dave said
- Yes, but I don't think I will accept.
- Why?
- Something is wrong. It sounds too easy.
- It doesn't hurt to talk with the man.
- What is the job? - Carmen asked
- The same as this one, but for more money.
- You have to tell Abby. She knows what to do. I'm sure she will help you.
- I said the same. She is the one who will put sense into you. - miss Baker said, chuckling
- She always does it. - I said, and we laughed
I'm glad that everyone likes her. Well, Abby used to come often when she was at university. Miss Baker immediately liked her. After lunch, we went back to work. I told Carmen to make two coffees and invited her for a chat. She was very excited that her boyfriend finally decided to propose to her. This girl reminds me of Abby when she is excited. These two will be good friends.
Around 5 pm, I finished my work. I let Carmen go early. She planned to surprise her boyfriend, so I let her go. I took my car and went to pick up Abby. The letter was in my pocket. I don't know how to tell her about this. I know what she will say, but I wish it had been different. I want her to choose instead of me. Sadly, that is impossible. When we walked home, I got changed and went to make dinner. Abby came as well.
- Hey, do you want us to order something? I see you are not in the mood.
- I'm surprised you didn't ask anything.
- When you are ready, you will tell me. I won't pressure you.
- I want your opinion on something.
- Ok, what is it?
- Read this and tell me what you think.
- What is that?
- A letter that I got at work.
- Ok, give me a minute. - Abby said and started reading
I saw how her face changed. I bet she read how much money I can make. That is the only good thing about this. I still think there is something wrong. Why now? If he liked me, he could've called a long time ago. I don't understand what is going on. Abby left the letter, grabbed the phone, and ordered food. Then she took my hand and dragged me into the bedroom.
- What was that for?
- Do you want to go there?
- I don't know. It's catchy, but I feel something might be wrong.
- It's good money, but there is something behind this. In this letter, there was nothing about a contract. I believe there will be a catch. The man talks about the money but nothing about how the conditions of work will be. It's an unofficial letter, but that is something that can't be skipped. If you meet him, you have to ask about that.
- So you want me to do it?
- The decision is yours, but I won't trust him completely.
- If I decide to go, will you come with me?
- I think you have to do this alone. The job is for you, not for me. - Abby said, chuckling
- I know, but you can help me.
- Think carefully before you do whatever it is. I don't want you to feel sorry. Once you sign the contract with them, you can break it until something happens or expires.
- I feel good at my current job. People treat me nicely.
- Then? Why are you wondering?
- What do you mean?
- If you like your current job, don't leave it. You work with good people. I don't know if you can find others like them.
- That is the big question.
- All I will tell you is to think before you do whatever it is.
- Thanks. Please don't tell anyone. If I don't accept, people shouldn't know.
- Don't worry. Your secret is locked in me.
Abby and I talked until the food came. I have no idea what she ordered, but it looked good. I could've cooked something, but she was right. I wasn't in the mood. I have no idea how she does it, but Abby always knows what I need. This girl is pure gold, and I'm not letting her go. We ate our dinner peacefully. The food was so good that it finished in seconds. Not really, but we ate all of it. Later, I helped Abby with the dishes. She wanted me to rest, but I didn't listen to her. I'm not tired. Let's say that my mind is busy. Then we went to bed to watch movies.
- Are you ok?
- Yes, I'm fine.
- Don't stress about this. I'm sure you will make the right choice.
- I think I already did it.
- Really? When?
- When I met you.
- I'm not talking about this, but I appreciate it.
- The money is good, but I don't need it. There is no point in receiving more if I work in bad conditions or with terrible people.
- That is true. Put yourself in the first place. Then the job.
- I think it's better if I stay here. I know everyone, and they like me.
- Ok, then. It's decided. Right?
- It is. Thank you.
- For what? I didn't do anything.
- You did more than you think. I love you.
- I love you too.
The rest of the night, we watched movies in bed. The job seems nice, but I won't accept it. As Abby said, there is less information in this letter. It might be unofficial, but he should've said more things. I guess he thought talking about money would be enough to convince me. Well, I will give him a reply. I'm sorry, mister Donovan, but I won't work with you. I like my current job. Also, I have enough money in my bank account. I don't need more. They can't buy me the things I need. I'm glad to receive such an offer, but I should decline it. I hope that the man won't get offended. He has nothing to do with that.
