I yawn sleepily. I love my university. I really did but there were classes that no matter how much I try to pay attention my brain just decides to shut off.
It’s lunch break and I welcome it with open arms. Trudging through the cold weather, I slowly make my way to the cafeteria for some much needed food. It’s a lot colder now. I’m sure this week we’ll have the first snow.
I’m half way there when an unnatural cold prickles my skin. Curious, I look around but see nothing out of the ordinary. Pepper is in my coat pocket still asleep. Whatever it was, it must not be a threat.
The cold under my skin gets worse. This time, Pepper climbs out of my pocket and settles on my shoulder.
I reach for him and scratch his ear. “What is it, boy?”
