My mother’s smile was the last thing I remembered before I selfishly fell asleep at her side because I was tired from hockey practice unaware that this would be the last time I would have a conversation with her.
The next morning the horrid truth came to me like a thief in the night who slipped in through closed windows and robbed me of my mother.
I pinched my eyes shut over and over wishing I was caught in some dream but each time I opened my eyes she was gone and never coming back.
I remembered leaving her ward with wobbly legs trying to keep my head high but it all failed when I stepped outside and the truth hit me square in the chest. My knees gave out and my heart shattered right there in the hospital with peo
