At last nine o’clock at night rolled around and her parents were due home soon. Ariel released me then: achingly hungry, more sexually frustrated, perversely excited and terribly anxious than ever – and needing desperately to pee. Ordering me to return promptly at seven-thirty the next morning to accompany her father to work and learn my new duties (apparently one day of f*****g was all the vacation I would get between finishing high school and embarking on the career chosen for me), Ariel ushered me out the door without even the most perfunctory kiss goodbye. Indeed that formerly cherished farewell ritual soon proved to be a thing of the past entirely – along with so much else.
