“Why aren’t you furious, James? Why aren’t you breaking down like me?” Connor mumbles as I lay him gently on his bed.
“She wins if I break down.”
“But are you at least mad?”
“I am infuriated, Connor. Not only because she betrayed my trust. But because of what her scam did to you.”
“I am an idiot.”
“No, Connor. You are not.”
“I fell for her like an i***t. She made me fall for her… You did not fall for her. This is why you are not breaking down.”
I sigh and remove his shoes.
“I fell for her… Probably harder than you did, Connor.”
“No way!” he gawks at me in disbelief.
“Yes, I did, Connor. But I will not let her betrayal go under my skin. I channel my rage through one outcome: revenge.”
“You think you can find her?”
“I know I can.”
“I want to see her when you find her.
