Stefan owned the lumber mill where Todd sometimes worked, and Millie was his grandmother. Their family also owned and operated a large general store and was among the first people they had befriended when they arrived in Elk’s Ridge. For a time, Nick had been the town’s only doctor. Now there were two more. They’d arrived with the first few waves of refugees and set up a clinic, something Elk’s Ridge had never had before.
