15 THE PENTAGON The Pentagon, Washington, DC. Naval wing, third floor, A-ring, 2nd corridor, bay number 106. October 15, 5:17 p.m. EST. The navy yeoman darted through the Pentagon hallway, dodging in between people as a single sheet of paper flapped without restraint in his hand. “Make a hole!” he yelled as though still on board a ship, sidestepping in between one person, then another. A marine guard standing post outside the office of Rear Admiral William Thornton saw the approaching melee, drew his weapon, and screamed, “Stand down! Halt or I’ll shoot!” The yeoman skidded across the slick floor in a wild attempt to arrest his forward momentum as both arms flailed in the air.
