The damned thing almost seemed to be waiting for her. “Just give her a call and tell her you’re a friend of mine,” Joe had giggled. “That oughta make her ears perk up.” He had paced across the room, thinking. “All you need to do is tell her I want to turn myself in, but only to her. Don’t you think that’s a good idea?” Pat had said nothing. “Yeah.
